The New England Patriots team that takes the field for Super Bowl LI will have far less star power than that of the Patriots team that won Super Bowl XLIX two years ago. But star power can be deceiving: This season’s AFC champions are very much in the same league as the last six Super Pats squads. Despite this season’s injuries, suspensions and trades that prioritized the future at the cost of the present, the Patriots finished No. 1 in wins, No. 1 in scoring defense, No. 3 in scoring offense and No. 1 in Football Outsiders’ DVOA. Head coach Bill Belichick had already built a resume worthy of the Hall of Fame, but the Patriots’ emphatic 36-17 win over the Steelers on Sunday might make this season his most impressive achievement yet.

The Patriots Won With Less Talent Than Usual

"Bill Belichick did his best five years ago to prevent the potential nightmare awaiting him and the Patriots in Super Bowl LI next week.

Belichick advised Falcons general manager and longtime scouting protégé Thomas Dimitroff against making a blockbuster draft-day trade with the Browns to acquire wide receiver Julio Jones, according to a 2013 book on Belichick.

Dimitroff made the deal anyway, trading five picks — including two first-rounders — to Cleveland for the right to leap 21 spots to No. 6 overall — and the rest is history that could come back to haunt Belichick in the Super Bowl in Houston."

Just in case people want to misrepresent facts..

Six years earlier, Kraft was seated one table away from Bill and Hillary Clinton at Donald Trump’s wedding at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida. Kraft is a lifelong Democrat and was later one of the largest donors to Barack Obama’s presidential campaign, but Trump is his friend.

Now Kraft’s relationship with Goodell is fractured. His friendship with Trump has never been stronger. Goodell is the most powerful man in sports. Trump is the most powerful man in the world. Kraft, the owner of the New England Patriots, is one of the most powerful men in the NFL.

That’s a lot of power for just three people.

In an interview with the Daily News, the most successful owner in the NFL, and future Hall of Famer, explained how Deflategate impacted his once-close partnership with Goodell and how, in the bluest of blue states, the President of the United States won his heart in his darkest time.

Kraft was livid Goodell fined the Patriots $1 million and took away a first-round draft pick in Deflategate – the most contrived controversy in NFL history – but he was apoplectic that Goodell suspended Tom Brady, whom Kraft truly loves and considers his fifth son, for four games and dirtied the reputation and integrity of the player considered the greatest quarterback in NFL history.

Robert Kraft opens up about Goodell, Deflategate and Donald Trump
