I’m not even talking about Nigeria alone. From Ghana to Congo to South Africa to Benin people think all traditional African religions are some how interchangeable.

Put a Vodun priest, Ifa babalawo, Odinani dibia In the same room together and their gonna tell you completely different things about each of their religions. It just kills me when people say west Africa in regards to orisas when it’s really just Yoruba people everyone else has their own practice
Definitely agree.

But like I said, it seems like most Igbo people are happy with nobody outside the tribe knowing the details of Odinani, so it might as well not exist outside of Igboland.

I don’t even wanna go into specifics but colonialism and Christianity definitely played a big part of it. You can’t even speak about It on the land and if you do people will pretend they have no idea what you’re talking about. It’s absolutely vexing

Cool! I hope to see more fictional media based on African cultures, histories, legends, cosmologies, etc (notice I mentioned them in plurals. Africa is a large continent filled with diverse peoples, cultures, etc), Like the:
The Akan Abosom
The Igbo Arusi/Arushi/Alusi/Agbara
The Ga-Adangbe DzemaWodzi
The Baganda Bulabaale
The Gbe (Fon, Ewe) Loa
and many others.
