20th Century Fox having the rights to A New Hope might have something to do with it

I know Lucas has said the original films are in too poor a shape to do anything with, but take that with a grain of salt
Yea fox has ep 4 until 2020, its why it's the only episode not on disney movies anywhere

Good for those that care. I know this is a big deal in the star wars fan universe. I for one, had no clue what had been changed (besides cgi Jabba, that stuck out like a sore thumb)

Fox has 5, 6 and the prequels until 2020

They'll always have Episode 4 until they sell it
yea you're right i looked it up. i guess they allow disney to digitally publish all but 4

20th Century Fox retains the physical distribution rights to the first two Star Wars trilogies, owning permanent rights for the original 1977 film and holding the rights to Episodes IIII, V and VI until May 2020.[6][7]The Walt Disney Studios owns digital distribution rights to all the Star Wars films, excluding A New Hope.[7][8]

Didn't they release these on dvd in 2004? What's the difference between that one and this?

Original unaltered trilogy

"
Controversy
Although fan reaction to the announcement of the DVDs was largely positive, upon release many fans felt that they had once again been played by George Lucas. The DVDs used non-anamorphic video sourced from the 1993 LaserDisc releases, which was nowhere near the same quality as the remastered versions of the films present in the 2004 boxset. "

On the real Star Wars really has some of the most bytchmade fans of all franchises :mjlol:

Answer your own questions brehs

Nothing bytchmade about people wanting the original movies that they grew up with, only to get pissed when the results are a half-assed joke

I've never seen the original versions. I don't think many people have since I think they were all altered in some minor form or another as soon as they hit home video and TV.

I'm have no doubt that 20th Century Fox will sell the rights to A New Hope to Disney. Just surprised that Disney hasn't bought it off them yet. Once this new trilogy is over, I think we'll be getting a box set of everything. Prequels, original trilogy in theatrical form, the most recent remastered version of the original trilogy, and new trilogy (+ Rogue One and maybe the Christmas special :obama:).

You're right about there being changes from the jump, but the 1997 special editions are when they were first drastically changed. Then again in 2004 and 2011.
