I think there has always been a distrust between dark skin and light skin since whites and blacks began mixing in the early 1300's. Lightskin were essentially "the first house nikkas" as many were able to gain their freedom and establish themselves much easier due to them being closer genetically to whites. History is replete with examples of mullatos fighting on the side of whites at the detriment of blacks. From the "coolies" that existed in Jamaica that helped the Brits to control the dark skinned slave population, to the mullatos that helped the French control the island of "Hispanola" (i.e. present day Haiti), to the mullatoes that were commonly employed as "house negroes" all across America during the slavery days due to their phenotypic similarities to whites, mixed folk have always been used by whites to control the activities of blacks. This of course led to "distrust" between the two groups, leading to the constant ribbing that currently goes on up until today.
The fact of the matter is mullatos are black whether they like to admit it or not. The sooner they realize this, they can also begin the work of destorying the negative effects whites supremacy on the black community. Those that turn their back on the community (i.e. Obama) out of fear of "offending" whites are the ones that annoy me the most however.
But all in all, any mulatto interested in working to uplift the black community is allright with me honestly.
I'm using the word mullato, because many mullatos here have requested that the term be used when referring to a mixed person. (i.e @GreatestLaker)
