The mother was stone fukking crazy. That's why Gosling's character wanted to die the entire movie. He took the young lady out to meet her and man! What a nightmare!
the funny part was everyone who was in the theater was laughing at that part. She was a cold bytch what i don't understand is if she got him to kill his father then how come he could not stand up to her? Very odd.

Do you think he died at the end or was it just a dream?

I think the entire movie was a projection of his subconscious as he slipped into madness. You could look at this movie as a battle for his soul almost. His mother was literally a devil bytch and you had an unforgiving God/Angel figure in the police chief. I watched the movie off a couple glasses of wine and I loved this shyt..lol

Or maybe you can watch the movie as a entire movie of symbolism, kind of how people read the Bible or any other religious text...how you (personally) perceive it, is your truth.

Clever ass movie.

best explanation i have heard yet.
When it comes on Netflix i will watching it again keeping that in mind.
I like the way Europeans make there movies (especially the French) just put a bunch of shyt on screen and you have to figure it out.

There's nothing clever about it. Nothing. You dudes need to broaden your film-range if you think this is the standard of being 'clever'.

Come on. An intense use of violence to make a commentary on religion or religious themes? Its pretty clever. So, what are your suggestions for other movies?

:dahell:

The violence isn't commentating on religion nor religious themes. The violence is purely for the director's liking - he said that he only makes films (inclu. OGF) for his own arousal and not films critiquing social/political issues. However, there are religious themes throughout the film, but they're lazy/superficial and show a lack of perspective. He basically said the basis-idea for OGF was that his wife was going through a difficult pregnancy and he wanted to punish god ("if there was one") for doing this to his family + the the anger/sexual release of the 'human fist'.

Really this film doesn't deserve any analysis - it should be kept to a minimal like the TS did.

Suggestions for other movies? If you're meaning something that's 'clever' - practically anything else.

The popcorn on the floor from the previous moviegoers was more 'clever' than anything this movie had to offer or whatever 'message' it was trying to convey.

The shyt was just abysmal from beginning to end. Seriously, this was like a horrible b-grade, independent low budget, wannabe 'artsy' movie gone horribly wrong. I didn't even think the violence was anything special. I mean shyt, it's no Ichi The Killer.

If I was on a desert island with a copy of the DVD and a TV, I'd rather just count the grains of sand than expose myself to this shyt again.
