I went down this rabbit hole after reading a thread on cacdit

Very interesting, apparently there were once tax incentives that led to a mass over production of new malls being built in America decades ago

Naturally, stuff like that will always correct itself

What we see today is simply that correction which would have happened without social media.

There are still plenty of malls that are CRACCIN. Ppl see a few close down and “it’s all these damn phones “ or “Biden”

I know here in Dallas the only 2 malls I known to closed down did so long before the social media age(big town and valley view )

No, online shopping (or better yet the internet) killed (or lead to the degradation of) malls.

Malls were spaces a ton of people could congregate at once, meet new people, buy new product that is out. Since the internet and online shopping has become so normalized, malls had to incorporate other things to stay alive. Movie theaters, amusement parks, large fitness centers, and other unique entertainment venues werent really a thing in malls 20 years ago. I'm going to guess that all the malls that are "poppin" nearby you have a combination of these things.

They’re still popping in my area. We have one that’s definitely on the decline(north lake) but at least they’re letting smaller local businesses occupy those spaces in the mall which is super smart. It’s a case by case basis with these malls.. just because they aint popping in your city that don’t mean they ain’t popping in others :yeshrug:

Prestonwood mall, Collin creek and Richardson square mall closed down also

But northpark galleria town east and Frisco mall are popping like a mf

And if you count Allen outlet and grapevine I think Dallas has the busiest malls in America

There are two malls near me. One of the malls used to be the spot to be years ago. It is literally a ghost town now.

The other mall I went to last week on a random the day night. It was PACKED. Felt like the old days.
fukking regency mall needs to get taken out back, shot, then skinned and gutted and repurposed already.

Damn you called it. lol. Regency mall is beyond dead.

I live right around the corner from the Avenues mall. I ran in there to get me and my girl some Popeyes from the food court. The mall was packed.

Smart mall ownership are pivoting to having more food and play options for kids and families near the entrance instead of burying shyt in the middle of the mall.

The women can't resist going window shopping deep in the mall and the kids always gonna beg for something with this setup
