How am I just fukking finding out about this now? Is the protag based on a real life actor like the other onimushas? All I need is square to drop a new bouncer and it will be like I'm teleported back to high school

That voice actor is :scust:

So this is prequel then?
It appears to be a sequel (or reboot) as it’s taking place during the Edo period.

He’s based on the legendary actor, Toshiro Mifune:

I am kinda meh on this right now. Nioh 2 already satisfied my samurai itch.

I think the actual combat looks cool with the environmental stuff, thats a cool idea. Its gonna be like Jackie chain samurai action.

i do think the graphics are really unimpressive looking though. Not even just the fidelity but the art style is kinda ugly. Reminds me of the ps2 era Onimusha games in terms of visual clarity. Capcom is such a mixed bag with this stuff

Kinda surprised theres only two pages for this game. For as long as people have been begging for a new Onimusha game you’d think there’d be more fanfare…

new info:

DeepL translation:
Do you have a story connection to the past?

Nihei: For the first time in about twenty years, we are reviewing, reinterpreting, and reconstructing the world settings of the world such as phantoms and ogre clans. Therefore, there is basically no connection with the past work. This is also aimed at making it possible for those who touch "Onimusha" for the first time in this work to play with peace of mind.

Kadowaki: I am conscious that the experience will not change depending on the difference in knowledge between the person who touches this series for the first time and the "Kim Warrior" series fan.

How much volume of content to clear is expected?

Kadowaki: I want to create a satisfying volume for a single action game. It's not a game where you defeat the same boss over and over like "Monster Hunter," so I think it will take about 20 hours to complete. It hasn't been decided yet, though.

Comparison with other games in the series:
  • Onimusha Warlords: 4-5 hs
  • Onimusha 2: 8-10 hs
  • Onimusha 3: 10-12 hs
  • Onimusha Dawn of Dreams: 16-18 hs

Other tidbits from the interview:
  • Game progress through stages, it's not an open world game.
  • The game has puzzles.
