yeah, that's why I'm not going to movies for another few months. There's always some type of weak copy cat, that comes out and wants their 15 minutes of fame 
Honestly, you can equivalate mass murders to internet trolls who posting obnoxious sh*t for attention, in a weird sense. Whether it's good or bad, the end result seeking any form of validation or attention.

But how do they eat or get ratings if people aren't watching it or drawn to it?

So, if it's interesting, are the News and Journalists only giving us what we want?
that seems to be the distinction of giving people what they need as opposed to what they want. I think the majority of the responsibility lies with journalism. they are the ones that ultimately decide what to publish. IMO they have a civic responsibility in a democracy, but recently they just focus on making money and telling people what they think they want to hear
