Exactly this. You guys are conflating a diary with some middle school girl stuff. A journal is where you record your thoughts and see if you can notice progress towards spiritual goals over the course of a lifetime. A good jumping off point is bullet journaling:

Check it out. I started doing this years ago and my life has been on an upward trajectory ever since. It's way different than a phone or a computer, you have to write down your thoughts in the moment with intention. It's like meditation: once you quiet the mind and get all of the initial stuff on the paper in your "to do" lists (stuff like, gotta fix that leaky faucet, gotta buy a washer first, should return that socket wrench while im at it), you start adding deeper and deeper thoughts, and prioritizing your plans of actions to accomplish those goals. If you start to have emotional goals, stuff like "have more patience", you write down what worked and what didn't, and come up with plans for the future. Spare me--I've never been to therapy a day in my life and never taken a fukkin pill to feel a certain way, this is just the shyt that men throughout history have done to help them on the path to success.
If some fukking bird took it and read it, and then took pix and posted it to try to shame me, I might snap and kill her in all honesty. Not because I would care what people saw about me--shyt, I'll take pictures of mine and share them with you guys IDGAF--but just that someone would be that low class to look into a man's soul and post that shyt. She needs to be taught a lesson, Klay should beat her savagely and try to take the vision from one of her eyes permanantly, either with chemicals or a blunt object of some sort. Maybe knock some teeth out. Do something to leave a permanant reminder that she fukked up. Brand her with an iron on her cheek "by accident".

I don't know about grown men keeping diaries

Nah man, journals are GOAT, especially for men. I think in 2019 we need a space where we can reflect and keep a log of our ideas, observations, activities, interests and goals.

A journal is really just a written versions of your thoughts. I've been keeping one since April 2017. I usually write in it every 2-3 days.

I date it. Give it a time and location stamp and just write. Literally about any and everything. I find it therapeutic and a good way to keep a log of my mental space at the time. Like I've looked back at entries I made from even 1 year ago and I'm like

"Was that really what I was on at the time" or "Damn, I should have pursued that much harder". Self reflection is one of the greatest things a man can do. I honestly wish I kept a journal while I was in high school and college. There were so many ideas and thoughts that I imagine were going through my head that I could have captured.

A journal is really like a time machine to your previous thoughts.

I suggest trying to keep one for like a month or two. Once you get into the habit of it, you'll really enjoy it.
