I think the one solo studio album adds to her mystique
I don't remember shyt about the unplugged album

Man….Unplugged is a bit of a Rorschach test.

Depending on your age when it dropped, depending on if you’re familiar with the Bible, depending on your views, will dictate how/if that albums hits you.

Miseducation is a better piece music but as far as what she’s saying?!?! Ngga. That album will be in a time capsule.

I’ll put it this way: back then the culture, both in general and rap-wise, still had a smidget of spirituality (Ie Kanye could make a Jesus Walks). Now, that spirituality is completely gone. So it’s aged phenomenally. She sounds like a damn prophet. It’s Nikki Giovanni, Langston Hughes, etc if they could rap and sing.

That’s if you’re so inclined. It is probably not for anyone under 30, anyone who’s not a deep thinker, anyone whose favorite rappers are from Atlanta. It is not for anyone who describes music as preachy. If you see nothing wrong with the state of the culture; hell the world, it is not for you

:bryan: what female album is better

I don’t think you understand. Referring to that album—-which is argued as one of the best albums across all genres—-as ‘best female MC album’, is an insult. Bc you reduce her to a female rapper…and bc you reduce her to a rapper at all tbh. She transcends both

Nah she’s a rapper. A multi talented rapper but a rapper nonetheless. Thats like saying Illmatic or the Blueprint or Fear Of A Black Planet aren’t some of the best RAP albums of all time because they transcend the genre.

The only way the genre remains a cultural force and a beacon of black art is if we claim our MC’s for what they are. RAPPERS. They first and foremost pioneers of Hip Hop and from that culture they touched the world and evolved .

Uh, No.

The jay/Nas comp is irrelevant bc she transcended rap literally, not just metaphorically:

1. It won the Grammy for best R&B album

But forget that. One could chose to dismiss the Grammys classifications. Cool. But what can’t be disputed or argued in any way shape or form is:

2. She only raps on 5 songs out of 16. Lost Ones, That Thing, Superstar, Final Hour, Forgive them Father. And only Lost Ones and Superstar are straight rap songs. The others are R&B structured songs where she is essentially her own guest feature rapper.

And ive seen her in concert 4 times. She sings. She don’t rap :yeshrug:

"I'm not a rapper I'm a hustler". It started in her era too
Yeah but at least there was way more balance. That's another problem with streaming. A lot of these hyper-sexual rappers can get a lot of streams but don't really sell albums.
