Are you arguing that superhero movies haven't been making a focused effort to land heralded actors for roles?

Because uh...that's been the entire MO of the MCU and Sony has clearly been following it for their Spiderverse. They're going to get the most sought after awarded/nominated actress they can.

Booksmart was one of the best movies of last year. Studios were lining up to give her the bag for a big project.
It flopped though

Actually excited for this
Hopefully Olivia has some chops
I think they’re trying to raise the female roster a bit
So the female roster is now pretty diverse
Blonde widow(Basic avenger), scarlet witch(magic realm), captain marvel(space), spider-woman(hydra,AIM,SWORD,)

Flopped? It quadrupled it's budget and got high critical praise as a comedy with zero star power and a rookie director. That's about as much of a hit as you could dream of.
Well they had higher hopes for it. Even wilde was copping pleas and begging people to go see it on Twitter. Just search booksmart + flop and tons of articles from Forbes and so on.

I really liked the movie but it is regarded as a flop. They expected it to be a smash and it wasn't. It was a studio movie that did A24 numbers.

It's regarded as a flop by people who are dumb. No other business has such a warped sense of money. Imagine being a stockbroker/investor and making 25 mills on a 6 mills budget during your first year and someone who call out for doing a bad job.

Nah, man.

Booksmart wasn't a flop. It wasn't as big of a hit as the studio wanted it to be but it was made for $6 million and grossed nearly $25 million.

It came out the same weekend as Aladdin though and that movie was a monster occupying almost all the space in movie theaters and grossing almost $100 million it's first weekend.

Brightburn came out the same weekend too and is looked upon as a flop despite also only costing $6 million to make and grossing $33 million.

I think most of the flop talk was an $8.7M weekend on 2500 screens. Maybe all the talk got it to 25

It's regarded as a flop by people who are dumb. No other business has such a warped sense of money in America and even more overseas. Imagine being a stockbroker/investor and making 25 mills on a 6 mills budget during your first year and someone who call out for doing a bad job.

Nah, man.

You are not including Advertising and promotion, though. You are also ignoring that theaters keep half of the money in America and even more in international territories. The ancillaries might have helped. That guy is not off with his assessments.
