This is why I can't stand alien discussions. It becomes clear they aren't about aliens...they're about us. Specifically the idea that we are so self absorbed, and our intellect is so limited, that we believe that aliens look like us. The idea that aliens who went through millions of years of evolution in an entirely different solar system, billions if not trillions of stars away, ended up looking like humanoids is laughable.
If there is alien life - and I believe there is - there is no shot that they look like us, or act like us. They would be so foreign and incomprehensible to us that we wouldn't be able to fathom them - and likewise, we would be incomprehensible to them. The only logical certainty would be that, if they were able to find us from billions/trillions of stars away, they are so much more advanced than us technologically and intellectually that we'd be little more than insects to them.
It reminds me of that quote from Watchmen: "the Super Man exists, and he is American."
