part of it had to do with rob moses tearing up traditional white neighborhoods in the bronx to create transportation highways as well.

NYC was pretty bad in those years.
A lot of people feel that while it's great that the city is a lot cleaner and more civilized, it also lost a lot of it's heart and soul and creativity.
NYC used to be a hotbed for artists, musicians and actors. It doesn't seem to be that way anymore.

The Bronx was no joke. There are still parts in the BX where you could get hurt just for taking the wrong parking spot.

And the people who bought up the property during those rough times are laughing all the way to the bank.

Change should not come at the cost of hard working people having to move out. Maybe they should move the goons to the outskirts of Albany and the individuals that cause crime in the wilderness.

People stagnated and thinking that rent is everything. If you talk about ownership and making a way for their kids to live rent free in properties that they owned and paid off, they look at you like

White flight is over man. It's a result of blacks/Hispanics (mostly) moving into the urban areas and (real talk) is deeply rooted in racism. You have a black family move into a white area and the people who already love there feel like the value of everything is gonna plummet and there's gonna be all kinds of crime and fukkery to go along with it.

The odd thing about it is that people have immigrated to this country for a better life for a couple of centuries (especially in the east). But when it's immigration from European countries (Italy, Greece, Jews from Europe) the it's all good because they want to upgrade life for their families. But when you have poor black from the south and folks from Latin/South America/Caribbean doing it, then a red flag is raised and it's like the whole neighborhood is gonna go to shyt.

White flight is just a term for racist bullshyt and they fled to the suburbs while the areas they left behind had some serious drop off. Adding to the drop off was the fact that the minorities moving in we're poor as fukk and some were ratchet. It's a bad combination of variables.

Now, in many parts of NY we're experiencing this "reversal" in white flight, and you have folks from the middle of nowhere America gentrifying the fukk out of the "urban" parts. Suddenly the "hood" isn't the hood anymore and the black/brown folks are being pushed to shytty areas or leaving the city altogether because rents are artificially high/inflated (so-called "market rate") and the people coming in are willing to pay whatever just to be in the city.

There's ln housing shortages in NY. If you showed up to an apartment in the hood with $10gz in cash, you'll will get to rent that apartment THAT DAY. if you show up with $1.5 million in cash to buy a lux apartment in the city/Brooklyn, you will get the crib THAT DAY. These realtors will make it seem like housing is scarce because people want to get in on the cheaper prices (who wouldn't) so it's like they are creating an artificial bidding war over vacancies they don't realize exist.

people cant see it....... its really bad in London and worse in Paris.... recently at a christening I found out that out of all of my relatives I was the only one who could still afford to live there, all my relatives had been forced to move out because of the cost of housing and were forced to commute in by train for work

Wait, so these vacant lots we see today in nyc were all burned down tenements? I noticed that there's usually bricks on the ground as if the building collapsed.

Some parts still look the same.

Yeah, many are burned down apartment buildings that they dost wanna bother salvaging because a burned out shell of a building was an eyesore and a perfect hangout for crackheads, and any other crimes the mind could think of. Some buildings were salvaged and simply renovated/refurbished because they weren't in horrible shape and could be saved.

Huh, white flight is going on right now breh in many parts of the country. Man, wtf are you talking about?

Cabrón, New York, like many cities on the east, has a longer history than other parts of the country (i.e: cities were established earlier). A place like Harlem, for instance had people living there for decades before, let's say, San Diego, had the same standard of living.

By the 40s-60s, white flight was in full effect in the East because tons of blacks from the south migrated and then there were Hispanic immigrants as well. And during this time, you had your Irish, Italian, Germans who had been over since the Ellis Island/Statue of Liberty days.

The (white) people who lived in these tenements and what became the so-called hood saw blacks/Hispanics moving in by large numbers and decided it was time to get the fukk out and go to the suburbs out of "fear" and whatever else horror stories they heard about black people.

Now in the larger cities, there's a reverse white flight going on because being in the city is "cool" again and there's better public transportation, bars, clubs, restaurants and accessibility to their jobs. With that, you get the higher rents and these landlords who know they can price gouge and push the poorer people out.
