Boy stop with these Wikipedia Accounts written by White Journalists. .

Your nerdy Azz knows nothing about the heavy GD F. O. L. K nation symbolism that's been apart of Memphis culture for years..

Them rappers Three Six Mafia Didn't get it from a Mississippi blues influence it comes from the 6 side as Barksdale and the Folks brought forth

You have to HAVE BEEN THERE like i have as a promoter who has dealt with numerous Memphis acts and my experience brother in law is a FOLK

^^a dude from the little island of st kitts tryna tell me about happenings within my own culture:jbhmm::pachaha:

...it would only make sense that the cats from memphis and founders of some Chitown gangs (Barksdale and Hoover were both from Mississippi) would pull from the common bonds (blues folklore, hoodoo and the occult) that they shared culturally and would later influence/inspire them in their music and gangs even if it was only subconsciously

In the early years, No other city/coast outside of NYC has ever blew up without a gimmick that didnt include the standard set by NYC. All the other citys had to either curse on records or do something gimmicky like put a fake nose on and create the Humpty Dance , rap about pimping, gangster shyt or rapping about satanic shyt.

No it’s because NY is the media hub and the headquarters for all media at the time.

You had to sound like NY to get heard

Once different regions started celebrating themselves ..how they talk.. how they move .. how they kick it and what they do ..the public was F’n with them

Wrong. Chicago native Common Sense came in the game sounding like NYC and didn't get acknowedged like that till his 2nd album and even then he was still underground. But Chicago native Twista was doing the gimmicky fast rap and got put in the guiness book of world records. Chicago natives, Crucial Conflict did a song sounding like the gimmicky Bone thugs and they were able to have a hit.....Like I said....all the other regions had to be gimmicky to stand out. Cali and the south all had to curse on records in the 80's in order to stand out from nycs dominance. If this wasnt true you would be able to name another city that blew up without a gimmick in the late 80's/early90's but u cant.

i fukk with you, bro. ya'll both spreading good knowledge; you ain't gotta come at his neck like that. i think both sides of it may play a factor and i'm enjoying reading and listening to what's being posted, even if it's inaccurate, it's still interesting pieces of history.

So you’re saying if you don’t sound like a traditional NEW YORK RAPPER (no matter the region(then you’re a gimmick ?

I dont know how that proves your point when u went way off topic to talk about nothing. I answered OPs question. 36 came in the game on some devil shyt to be gimmicky. Period end of story.

None of 3 6s earlier lyrics had anything to do with Memphis blues or any of that other dumb shyt nikkaz brought up in here. Listen to the lyrics. The devil shyt was a gimmick.

I read that DJ paul was influence by horror movies & that the devil worship was a gimmick. DJ paul father was a pastor and told him he'll kill him if he worshipped the devil

Basically. I'm not from Memphis, but I more or less follow anything "horrorcore" leaning, and I was amazed to hear that there were A LOT of groups that followed the whole triple 6 gimmick (hence the "devil shyt" genre). Dark, ominous, lo-fi, complete with audio clips and most cats rapping the same way. Some cats in that scene was just rappin regular ol' street shyt. Yo Gotti came up in that as Lil Yo. Man...so much you can find on YouTube in regards to this sound.

This stuff is comparable to the Drill Rap genre from here in da Chi to me. The Memphis stuff was like a precursor of sorts.

Of course, to a degree, it was a gimmick but the other side of it that could be direct or indirect was that that entire vibe or angle has been in the air in memphis (blues folklore of the mississippi delta) since the early 1900's.
