I think that's a front he uses to negotiate....I don't think he gives a damn about kissing ass or the politics but he's way too good and puts way too much effort into his character to not care

Also he come off as a dude who doesn't live an extravagant lifestyle...so he's obviously doesn't need more money but still does it...think he likes the performance aspect of it but hates the traveling, politics, locker room "shaking hands with the boys" extra stuff
