UPDATE: 9/1/13--the purpose of this thread is to gauge how the folks of HL feel about public water fluoridation. in light of the close-minded fukkery im dealing with in the other thread i wanted to revisit this and see where HL stands. if im bugging i want my people in HL to reel me back in. if im justified in my skepticism of water fluoridation i want my people in HL to let me know.

there's been a lot of controversies both ways concerning water fluoridation, so i want people to take a close look at the FACTS, and the PROS and CONS of water fluoridation, and give your opinions.
FACT #1 - the reason given for public water fluoridation is it helps the prevention of cavities
FACT #2 - for cavity prevention to be effective, the fluoride must be applied EXTERNALLY to the outside coating of the teeth, not swallowed
FACT #3 - 96% of people living in the US brush their teeth on a daily basis, calling into question the extra need for public water fluoridation
FACT #4 -
FACT #5 - fluoridated water is not recommended for infants and pregnant women because of its toxicity level
FACT #6 - sodium fluoride has historically been used as an insect and rodent killer

SODIUM FLUORIDE -- Pesticidal Uses
FACT #7 - we absorb minute levels of sodium fluoride every time we drink from the tap, use faucet water to cook, and take a shower... which is a short way of saying WE HAVE BEEN EXPOSED TO FLUORIDATED WATER BOTH INTERNALLY AND EXTERNALLY MULTIPLE TIMES, EVERY SINGLE DAY OF OUR LIVES.
FACT #8 - it is difficult to determine the long term health effects of fluoridated water over 20, 30, 40+ years because of all the external factors that play a part in human toxicity and physiological disease.
______________
these are not even all the facts, but from the facts presented and what your intuition is telling you, do you think it's a good idea to fluoridate the public water supply?
i range in viewpoint in some respects because on one hand i feel water fluoridation is totally ludicrous.. if it is a danger to infants and to pregnant women then it should not be allowed in the water supply, period. if there are ANY potential negative unknown health effects then it should not be allowed in the water supply, period. this to me is common sense.
but even in my most "give the benefit of the doubt" moments, i still feel that water fluoridation should not be implemented until we know more about the long term negative health effects.
what say you Higher Learning?

FACT #4 -
Knowing what I know about fluorine, I can safely say that in high doses, it WILL kill you. F- in your stomach will form the dangerous acid hydrofluoric acid. Also, fluoride ions sequester calcium very effectively which can lead to loss of bone density among other more serious things like interfering with calcium channels in muscles which will kill you by paralysis and respiratory or cardiac failure.
