let’s be reality. Was Soleimani a brutal guy? Of course he’s a fukking General. The Shia Iraqi groups launched an insurgency after our stupid criminal President invaded in 2003. Iran got into that opening. Supported these groups, killed our troops. Regime change = consequences that always are almost bad!

But without Iran, ISIS would have marched on Baghdad and Damascus if you want to keep it a 100.

The Iraqi Kurds coordinated as closely with the Iranian backed militias as they did the US.
This is exactly why my follow up posts say we needed to get out of there. I'm of the mind that you give ISIS a state and tell them to sit the fukk down, all the people who want to live like you can come there and you can have your oppressive uptopia. of course that's not how it would play out, but the US shouldn't keep further engaging in the ME, everything is a further misstep. that region knows their politics and beliefs and needs to be left to fight it out the way eurpoeans did with each other in the 18th-20th centuries and in the way the world seems to be content to let africa do...

and how many arab bodies does solemani have on his watch...dude needed to be taken out the game, clearly the way we went about it is suspect, but either capture and trial or kill were both acceptable outcomes of war
1. We are not a war with Iran

2 We have exponentially more arab bodies on our hands, so by that logic our leadership is fair game too.

The exact same way we didn't learn our lesson from taking out Saddam, destabilizing Iraq and having to spend the following 2 decades cleaning up the mess we made. The middle east just works different than the west, and for better or worse, having semi contained strong men that stop the sectarianism from spiraling works.

Every single time we remove one, the country gets worse, not most of the time, or some time, but EVERY SINGLE TIME.

A nation that has only existed for hundreds of years shouldn't be telling nations that have existed for thousands of years how they should be living. Its really that simple.
