As quarantine started I slowly rewatched all 10 seasons up to this point again in time for the finale, and now everything is fresh in my mind it’s easy to separate it like this

Seasons 1-4A (Up until the Govs assault on the prison) from a writing/Plot standpoint this was by far the best this show ever was, it still had slow moments and annoying characters, but it was a lot more grounded and Gritty, everybody’s Motivations made sense and the dialogue was a lot more realistic, and if anybody was ever making dumb decisions you could easily put it down to the situation they were in. (Except Andrea, she was always dumb/awful)

Seasons 4B - 6 (Finding terminus up to Negans introduction, and when Scott Gimple took over as lead writer) this is when writing started getting sloppy and they started that bullshyt trend of splitting up character groups and focusing on 1 group per episode, but even with some Really boring Episodes These seasons had some of the shows best scenes (Throat Bite, Church Machete, Crazy Rick) and action (escaping Terminus, Alexandria Herd, Assaulting Negans outposts ect) so the occasional lame writing at this point could be overlooked

Seasons 7 & 8 (The Negan/Saviour War) these seasons were BAD, barely any action or plot progression for 3 episodes at a time, Horrible Writing and Pacing, characters constantly flip flopping on their motivations & beliefs, a bunch of pointless or annoying new characters, Characters doing completely nonsensical shyt for the sake of being a lazy plot device, Basing Entire Episodes solely on the shows most annoying characters (Tara, Carl, Eugene) God awful CGI and some absolutely dogshyt editing....you can easily point out 3 things per episode that just straight up don’t make any sense, it’s easy to see why these 2 seasons killed a lot of this shows fanbase.

Seasons 9 & 10 (The Whisperers and When Angela Kang took over from Gimple) these seasons are still dope, Characters started behaving and talking like real humans again and their actions made sense, New Characters have a purpose, the pacing improved greatly, overall the difference in quality of this show as you go from season 8 straight into 9 is huge

Hyped for the “Finale” :yeshrug:
