You can't muddy the waters on impeachment by putting Hawley and Cruz face on it. It's a separate issue.

They have to somehow diffuse the "constitutionality" argument as well. That's the excuse they're going to lean on.

It seems like the Dems are trying to give the Republican Senators an out to vote to convict Trump. They could have easily involved the GOP Senators in the build-up but are going for the "Trump-alone" angle.

Will the GOPers take the exit ramp or ride with Trump?

The easiest out is to allow secret ballots to vote for convinction.

The reality is that while there are Hawleys and Cruzs who are just sociopathic in their quest to maintain power, there are a lot of senators and people in office right now who have admitted privately or publically that fearing for their life is driving their decision-making process.

So, make it where their votes are private and then you can remove that fear and increase the chances of convinction.
