Anyone using the fact Trump was president as a reason why he shouldn't be charged with these particular crimes, must remember, he was not president when these charges took place. He was a resident of New York State, and I'm sure this is the driving force for Bragg here. He sees Trump for who he was in October of 2016, not what happened after election day.

If that’s the case how can you say it’s weak compared with two other cases that haven’t even issued indictments?
My personal judgement on the details of each case. Also, based on what many experts have said about Trump's legal problems.

However, I want to see what happens with the other cases.

I've never said he shouldn't be charged.

I agree with what you said otherwise.

As mentioned earlier, the case against Capone was 'weak' in comparison to what most agreed he actually committed. The same goes for OJ and tons of others. The American justice system frequently makes an example of public figures as a deterrent to the general public and people who may want to follow the same path.

I expect my president not to commit any 'light' felonies and they should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law if they are caught doing so. His status as former president is all the reason to make an example of him, in the same way that police officers can/should get harsher penalties for abusing positions of trust and eroding trust in the system. This would be a huge case for a president if it weren't compared to potential treason and insurrection.

If you're going to prosecute a president or former president, then it needs to be a case where prison time is likely to happen. This case isn't it. He did something wrong and illegal, but he's not going to spend any time in prison..
I’m with the shyts, and it does seem like Bragg is reaching because he is trying a federal law in NY state, but this is absurd. If a president broke a law, charge them. This thinking Is why so many of them break the law.

The Georgia case, the Mar-a-Lago documents case, and maybe even the January 6th case are much more serious in my opinion.
You may be right about some of these charges (defrauding American voters :childplease: ), but the case itself seems solid because it looks like they have records of Trump incriminating himself. Even still I don't think it will be enough for prison time unless National Enquirer/David Pecker turns on him.

But even if it doesn't result in jail time this is still a positive thing. I never thought I would see a day when an American president would get charged with a crime, so I'm just happy to see it happen.

We have to thank Trump for being so brazen with his crimes and Alvin Bragg for having balls to prosecute him, hopefully this encourages other prosecutors that have more serious cases against Trump not to p*ssy out.
