Confirmed in a Facebook comment back in June 2015, now that it’s out, the reality of an online-only, potentially ‘single-player experience’ is a weird one.

I'm going to have to watch some gameplay reviews for single player on this cause I sure as hell aint paying 60 for a game I got to coordinate times with friends so we can play it...If I can't play by myself sometimes and it be fun I doubt I cop...

fukking shame...Witcher III and The Division where at the top of my must have games two years ago...Witcher III got boring fast and my friends are so desperate for me to pick this up that it's making me a little at the game...
