Because the USOC/Or any countries OC have targets of golds but it's also overall medals won. The gold medals is down to the individual disciplines/sports governing bodies targets.
And the US keeps touting the total number of medals when it’s the number of golds that really count...

Kunty is right, it's always been total metals.

That said the US has won a lot of smaller sports, they needed better in track and swimming which is the core of the games.

I never started hearing about how its only the gold that matters until China started racking them up. Total medals has always been the measuring stick of the country. Especially so when you see how much those silver and bronze medals mean to the athletes, its low key disrespectful to them to trivialize their accomplishments.

Would you say Qatar had a better Olympics than Spain when Qatar only has two total medals, both gold, and Spain has 10 with 1 gold? Australia has 1 more gold than Russia but Russia has damn near 20 more total medals. :mjlol:
Edit: I’m wrong...good point...

plus you know mentally weak Trayvon Bromell will throw away the baton

Same reason why I don't trust the jamaican women they don't even get along even though they have the 3 fastest women in the world.

It's all about technique, even for the men bolt made up for alot of mistakes if you look at relay finals he was chasing japan down in rio
