I thought either a concussion or a neck injury too the way his head played a staccato beat on the track, I hope it's just a shoulder injury.

Looks far more dangerous than gymnastics cause in gymnastics you have control, no opponent hitting you, and a soft floor. BMX you don't have full control over what your bike does on any particular point on the track, you can get hit by an opponent out of nowhere, and then you hit asphalt.
