The first Captain Marvel made $1 billion
The first Wonder Woman made $822 million
Black Panther Wakanda Forever made $870 million
All female-led films. The issue is not that the films are woman focused but the combination of Marvel and Superhero movies in general being on a cold steak, 2023 being a year full of flopped blockbusters and the SAG strike making it near impossible to promote these movies.
But look at the follow ups.
Wonder Woman 84 made $170 million.
The follow up to Captain Marvel is about to flop.
Black Panther 2 had momentum from the first one.
The comic book fan base has always been predominantly male. Disney/DC has been trying to expand that fan base for their own financial gain and sometimes it works when the movies are organic, but fail horribly when the shamelessly pander.
