Season 1 is The Wire by far :dahell:

I agree with the rest as far as seasons go even tho season 5 of The Wire never had nothing as bad as the tire episode

Far as characters I disagree

Marlo>> corny ass franky saint

Females on snowfall DO look better I agree. The wire had some ugly ass women but then again it’s the most realistic show ever and Baltimore isn’t known for pretty women so maybe they were being true to reality

Rawls, Mcnulty and Landsman>> reed and ocho

Henchmen. Wire easily. Snoop and Chris alone >>

Clucks. I like wanda. I hate bubbles. But bubbles is way better written character with a better arch. Wanda spend the majority of the show sucking sick for money in her 5 second scenes

Tiger episode you mean?

I'm gonna have to speak on this later lol.

I will say that I guess it depends on what kind of TV viewer you are in why you'd like Snowfall over The Wire 🤷🏾‍♀️.

Snowfall is strictly about street shyt and the drug game for the most part (similar to Power) whereas The Wire is about numerous things, the street stuff in The Wire is not the main focal point of the show but ONE of the many subplots, it's a more complex show that you have to put the effort in understanding and paying attention.

Season 2 of The Wire made it clear that if you're gonna watch this show strictly for the street/drug element then you are going to be disappointed which is why season 2 is often times misunderstood, hated, and underrated for how everything that transpired on the Docks with the Greeks, Sobotka, etc sets up the events that take place throughout the rest of the following seasons.

Season 2 is vital in understanding The Wire, you can't skip the season. People who don't like season 2 is because they felt the street/drug element was gone or pushed to the side.

As I said I'm gonna have to speak more on this later, got classes to attend.

The Wire >>> every season of Snowfall combined

It’s a good show but since the fourth season, it’s going down that hood soap opera vibe that Power universe is in

The Wire had in depth character development carefully crafted with thematic seasons that touched on crime, education, politics, policing and media. Each of these themes were touched on throughout the five seasons to paint the picture of the modern city plagued by poverty, violence and corruption. It’s a reflection of a society that still exists.

Snowfall did…. None of this. It’s an entertaining show for what it is but The Wire is like a literary masterpiece that requires multiple viewings where you’re still picking up on gems from the dialogue and action of each character. It truly is one of the greatest pieces of American art in any medium of all time.
Truth.

Wire was the one show where you see drug dealers, blue collar workers, white collar workers, politicians and cops....and neither group is 100% good or bad.

Most cop shows will show the police as 95% good with a few bad apples....or it makes the whole force look corrupt. They did a great job of showing how talented/effective cops COULD be (Daniels, Kima and em) in certain situations while also showing cops that were shady (Herc and Carver) AND cops that were just lazy (Landsman) and didn't care one way or the other.

The political side was huge as well as it showed the nuance. People start out wanting to do good stuff (Carcetti) but end up being a slave to their own ambitions (also Carcetti and Clay Davis).

Even the dope boys. Slim Charles and Prop Joe aren't particularly violent bad guys. If you're not purposely in their way, they leave you be....while a breh like Marlo was going out of his way to recruit youngins.

Show had layers.

Top Boy feels more realistic and more gritty than The Wire. It also has better wardrobing and production value although it benefits from its time there. It's also more true to the culture of its location than The Wire is too.

The Wire's advantage is that its a show that by season shows the corruption of a city from every level. Streets, docks, schools, politics, journalism, police. I don't feel its a "realistic" show though.
I don’t think it’s the realism that’s not similar I think Top Boy is just more street and Wire sophisticated

Don't forget we are comparing HBO to FX too. The wire could get away with a lot more than snowfall could with the nudity, language, and violence

Doesn't mean it's a better show (it is) but they had more to work with imo

Outside of their subject matter They're really two different shows.

The wire is more of a realistic police/crime drama, almost like a documentary.

Snowfall is really a crime/psychological thriller

Depends on your preference.
