The way i look at the whole chuck thing is. From seasons 1-5 Chuck wrote every move they made up until the ending of "swan song" Thats the first time Sam/Dean went "off script" Ever since then Chuck has been trying to find his "perfect ending" again. Allowing the boys to toy with this notion of "free will" from time to time. This was made clear during the dialogue chuck had with them in the season 14 finale

Cool. You got that.

You want to go up against -- what was it? -- the "British Men of Letters"?

Okay.

Little weak, but okay.

But when things get really bad, like the Apocalypse or the Other Apocalypse, that's when I have to step in.

This is showing that at the very least the Leviathans and Men of letters were consequences of sam and dean "free will" Not Chuck intervening. But Chuck will eventually guide Sam/Dean to a "apocalyptic" event(Lucifer/Michael,Amara,Jack) to where Chuck will have his "ending"

But of course Sam/Dean denied that and now we are where we are.

Supernatural's Final Season Won't Forget Castiel's Deal With The Empty

I think given what’s happened at the end of last season to Jack… the last thing Cas is worried about right now is [making good on that deal]. But it is something that’s going to come back for us this season. As we saw at the end of last season, The Empty is there. The Empty is one of our probably four cosmic players in this universe. He’s going to have a say.

Cool that it's confirmed that Cas deal with "The Empty" won't be forgotten about. Also interesting Dabb refers to "the empty" as one of 4 "cosmic players"

Im assuming the 4 cosmic players are The Empty,Billie,Amara and Chuck. Seems pretty odd for Billie to be ranked over Lucifer and Michael though. Although this probably doesn't seem to be a pure "power" ranking just a list on who can manipulate things on a cosmic scale.

But i guess it also could be Jack as one of the 4 and not Billie? I mean Jack did create a portal to another universe

Jack is pretty much powerless though so Billie up next seems right. Og death said he'd eventually come after Chuck so his power HAS to be up there

I like to think that the role of "Death" is a necessary role so by default it make Billie a big time player... and unlike the O.G. Horsemen Death that pretty much spent most of his time eating we have Billie actually using her role to make major moves like how she stepped in and gave Dean a solution for the Michael situation.

I'm just wondering how things would have changed dramatically if dean let same die in season 2. Angels bring sam back to life to become lucifer's vessel? The final seal wouldn't have been broken because dean wouldn't be in hell

I dont think so. Im pretty sure the script was written for them to be team "free will". Swan song was 100% on script. He even gave them the location to meet michael and lucifer and brought cas back after. He even wrote the impala history as foreshadoeing.
