No. They pulled him from a time he was still alive. You can tell this by the fact John still had the impala when he went "back" He was pulled from that very spot which is why he said to sam he should be in college when he saw him.
To him it was just a dream. Nothing more.

Adams only real 1st appearance he came back from the dead. The first time we saw him in season 4 was just a ghoul that ate him and his mom.
