What went on up there? Poppers and weird sex!
I never had a problem with that match. It was always strangely entertaining. Just the idea of WWE's biggest star, someone who overcame the odds no matter what, was booked like Superman for years.....getting his ass beat in the main event. Barely had any offense, and when he did, Brock had an answer for it. Every time. It was also the same year the Seahawks went to the Super Bowl and just beat the Broncos' asses so the match always reminded me of that game.
I also liked Cole's call at the end: "Brock Lesnar with an F-5 to Cena. For the championship. Lesnar.....with the cover. Lesnar has won the WWE World Title in convincing fashion!
"And to add to that, Lesnar had just beaten the streak a few months ago so he needed to win this match. For about two years, he wasn't being booked that well, so having him end the streak and stomp Cena out was a complete 180° from what they were doing with him before. He was the hottest heel in the company. Then Paul Heyman's GOAT-level promo the night after, while Lesnar is being presented with the new championship belt. Everything was done perfectly.
The problem is, like everything else, WWE ignored the context of that match and time period and just thought that Lesnar should be like this all the time. Main event matches should be more like this. The only time this worked is, ironically, when it happened to Lesnar at Survivor Series against Goldberg. Because we weren't expecting it. Like we weren't expecting it to happen to Cena.
When you do it wrong, you get shyt like Brock beating Kofi in ten seconds, or the bullshyt that happened tonight with Bianca.
