Man Biden just needs to do it or not. I had the GI Bill so I have no debt but leaving people in limbo is ridiculous. Better do something before November because if the Republicans get control of congress, it's a wrap. This is pretty much the only major chance of some type massive loan forgiveness.

No way student debt is passing this congress.:francis:

He could try to cancel it or he could paused interest and allow folks to pay them down without the tax.

Both benefit and people are going to complain no matter what happens.:yeshrug:

It's really strange because dem leadership isn't on the same page.

Pelosi doesn't believe the president has the legal authority to do so and wants a legislative approach (Biden also wants that and I believe it could pass in the house). Schumer on the other hand just wants Biden to do it via EA and I think it's because he knows he can't get 60 and won't blow up the filibuster.

Just messy all around. So yes you're right, he just has to go for it if he wants it done.

But that's the thing, apparently, he doesn't need Congress to pass anything regarding this....he can just do it but he won't :mindblown:

I agree with cancelling the interest, but that’s not gonna happen because it’s been sold and is being used as a profit making vehicle.

Cancellation without reform of the system will lead to a shyt show you can’t even begin to comprehend.

I agree with this. Let's say loans are forgiven, or say like 40% of loans are forgiven or whatever. What's going to happen in 10-15 years when new grads rack up loans? We'll be back to the same issue that we're at now. Unfortunately I don't see free college or anything happening anytime soon like some people want.

The only compromise I can see happening are loans being able to get discharged in bankruptcy. I know they can be done now but it's really difficult for the majority of Americans.

I think loans should be forgiven in bankruptcy if certain criteria have been met like a certain percentage has been paid, consistency of payments, what type of field your degree was in, etc and also the length of time bankruptcy will be on your record.

They just forgave all the rental arrears for all the residents in my federally subsidized apartment building complex from March 2020 to December 2021

:stopitslime: had me paying rent for these two years when I didn't have to

Joey B better cut the crap and just forgive this debt before the midterms

after a while these delays will only hurt if your PAYE clock for example has stopped and now instead of being done by 2030 or whatever it's 2032. better to forgive a certain amount than to keep extending the pause. now if that clock is still running then keep pausing.
