It's just PR. They don't want to have this discussion until after the infra packages pass or fail.

Whatever is gonna happen seems like it’ll be around midterms. I’m not expecting anything: when was the last time he even mentioned the 10k?

I thought that at first but having drawn up plans changes that calculus.
I don't think they were ever going wipe out all debt or even 50k. People would have to began repaying at some point no matter the decision Biden takes and I'm not sold either way on this one.

Yea I don't see anything happening until around the deadline either right before or right afterwards.

If he forgave 50k the vast majority would not have been repaying. You win over an entire generation.

Breh Biden has said “fukk those kids” so many times. Keep in mind it would make everybody’s life better, but why would the government do that?
It only helps 13% of society. I think most of those folks in the 30+ range are probably already reliable voters and vote dem at a high clip.

In my opinion it should be done for a few of reasons that aren't necessarily electoral calculus.

1. You said you wanted to forgive 10k in debt, so you need to stand by your own convictions and whatever benefits you believed that forgiveness would do, in particular during a Covid depressed economy.

2. If your plan is to overhaul and increase affordability to college then you should take retroactive actions to benefits those currently effected. Similar to prison/sentencing reform.

3. A leader should be willing to take decisive actions and use their powers. I can't imagine an easier one.

And of course the electoral benefits are there, as I said earlier, it's time to give a bone to the loyal voters who are not only funding the country, but also your loyal constituents who are almost always means tested out of everything.

That's been baked in WRT to this sub. Most of the people clamoring for 50k or its a failure are working in their desired fields, doing their dream jobs, and are generally happy with where they are financially.

I am disappointed that a lot of folks here don't just say that they want large student debt relief because they're doing well and believe it would help them catch of with their well off peers.

I know a lot of people who 1) are in debt with no degree 2) graduated and have shytty jobs because they didn’t want to take on more debt 3) limited in their ability to buy homes for their families 4) directing their whole careers based on 10 years of pslf which is still a mess.

Biden and these politicians ain’t shyt and the way they are doing this is a wedge issue that is going to come back and hurt them. Especially around election time when no one actually like them.

Lmfao. Come on bro, most student loan borrowers aren’t six figure people. They’re basically paying a car note every month on top of whatever they have.
