Breh you’re being obtuse. I’m not saying Harry Potter was made for Gen Z. I’m saying Harry Potter was made for kids (middle schoolers and teens) and as the series progressed, it got darker and more mature. Stranger Things was the same way. It was made for middle schoolers and teens, and then it got darker as they got older. Go back and watch the first season. Aint no way that’s for adults. No adult watching a show with four 12 year olds. We may have stumbled on it after the reviews came in that it was good but, it was for them at first.
You sound like the networks that turned the brothers down. It's not true :mjlol:

I watched the Superbowl at a sports bar in 2017. One of the commercials was for Stranger Things season 2. The entire bar erupted. There wasnt a single kid in that bytch. This was how I found out about the show in the first place

Yall keep skipping over the fact that the creators themselves said they wrote this for adults.

Just because you wouldn't watch a show starring 12 year olds doesn't mean millions of other 30-50 year olds didn't

I just did last night since one of my friends wanted to start the series. No grown ass man over 25 is the core audience of a show with four 8th graders and their older high school siblings. What, you gonna say Twilight and Hunger Games were for adults too?

I'm not gon dispute what others have cited in regards to the Duffers and their premise for the show. I will say that all the references to movies from the late 70's and 80's is nostalgic because it's stuff that they watched when they were children. Those movies may not have all been made for kids but they saw them when they were children and coming of age.

It's no different with Stranger Things. They wanted to make an adult show starring kids. "Adult" means mature in this context. You wanna put these kids in mature situations as they come of age, this way you appeal to both demographics. It may not be made for children directly, but it will appeal to them. It is made for children in an indirect way when you trace the genesis of the Duffer's inspiration.

Are Pixar movies not made for adults? Adults love them cuz there's abstract shyt in there that we understand. Kids like the animation and there's concrete things that they can grasp.

What about SpongeBob? Same thing.

Star Wars? George Lucas always said that he made that for kids.

You could say that Stranger Things is made for adults who were fans of movies / pop culture from when they were kids. The Duffer's made this for their inner-child. That's like some transitive property shyt right there.

That's true but it's not the argument

Both shows were created with Gen X, millennials in mind. Everything else came after

Gotcha. Shouldn't even be an argument then it's obvious lol.

And when I think of "Kid movies" it's Disney and stuff like Diary of a Wimpy kid. shyt that is CLEARLY for elementary school age.

So people are being simple "cast of kids must be for kids?" is Stand by me a "kid" movie lol

Again y'all keep basing this off your opinion when the aim of the creators couldn't be clearer

Duffers: We set out to make a kids leading show for adults. Everyone thought we were crazy but Netflix

Coli: There's no way possible this show was made for adults

The shyt is not computing with you nikkas:mjlol:

Your post indirectly touched on a point that explains some of these posts

There's this limited American idea that something featuring kids, or cartoons, couldn't possibly be made for adults. That's why it's breaking nikkas brains to conceive that Stranger Things could be made primarily with adults in mind.

Nikkas see animation or kids and automatically think for kids. A lot of these same nikkas also watched It and didn't think twice

Some of you are talking about "kids" which is dumb. ST's core audience is teens and young adults aka 17/18-29 year olds.

ST season 1-3 were rated TV-14 (which means intended for people 14 and older). Season 4 is the darkest season and so some episodes were rated TV-MA.

Nobody is talking about little kids lol.

I just rewatched S1 and I have to say The Duffer have done a good job taking the existing plot points and adding to the lore. I had forgot that El, in the process of spying on ppl with her powers for Dr Brenner(Papa), heard the Demogorgon and Papa pushed her to find out what it was. He then says to her "It's calling you" or something. Right after that she mistakenly opens the gate to the Upside Down(which we now know is the 2nd time). It giving that Vecna was looking for her all this time and finally found her.

I ALSO forgot that Nancy was the first one of the kids besides Will to interact with the Upside Down. When her and Jonathan go looking for the Demo she finds that tree with a mini gate. She was also the first person to lose someone to The Upside Down(Barb). To me this can partially explain why Vecna chose her to send the message to El.

I never seen people double, triple, and quadruple down on being wrong.

Again, and hopefully for the last time....the cast has so many children because it's inspired by "IT". Which very obviously isn't for kids, teens, or none of that shyt.

Why are you comparing it to "Twilight" and "The Hunger Games" when the Duffers told you what this was inspired by?

Hell, season 4 of "The Wire" has a gang of kids in it....is that for people under 25?

The movie "Kids" entire cast is kids....it's not for them.

Not sure why you all think "cast is young" = "it's for young people". The entire cast of young characters are literally all gen X, the series is meant to evoke feelings of nostalgia from that age group. The creators literally said that when pitching the show.

What's crazy is these cats are claiming gen X/older millennials were late to the party for this show when there's a big ass season 1 thread on this site.

It's funny you mention this because people say the same thing about anime. "Oh it's a cartoon, it must be for kids."

Which brings me to my next point....

The Duffer brothers said 11 is based on Lucy from "Elfen Lied".

"Elfen Lied" is an exremely dark, fukked up anime.

There's no reason to even pull from those types of references unless the show is for adults.

"E.T." too.

Matt: More recently I had seen an anime called Elfen Lied that is clearly inspired by Akira. And that was really influential. When I watched it I thought it felt like an ultraviolent E.T. There were a lot of things in there that I really liked and that made their way into the show, particularly related to the character of Eleven.
