I think it's because it's something the WWE fell into instead of coming up with themselves. Plus, it's a throwback angle that's easy to do. When was the last time the WWE had an interesting love interest type angle that wasn't flat out trash? Enzo and Nia was actually going somewhere until Enzo wore out his welcome with the company. Lana/Rusev killed the angle with Ziggler due to the engagement announcement, even though every single person with a pulse knew they were together anyway. Before that, you have to go all the way back to 2011 with AJ Lee/Bryan
