Oh I'm no expert, I feel my list would be just the most famous books lol:

1. The Brothers Karamazov, by Dostoyevsky
My GOAT book generally.
At the time I had a religious friend that loved the stories on the monk Alyosha...
I loved the return of Christ story...
The book seems like the Rorschach test on religion, that everyone sees differently basing on personal faith...

2. The Gambler, by Dostoyevsky
Arguably the best work of art on addiction, written to cover his own gambling debts

3. And Quiet Flows the Don, by Sholokhov
Already mentioned, but it's also a good book.
Being so huge, 4 volumes, I remember not managing to read it at high school in time for the discussion in class... Somehow I managed to survive the discussion, but it was such a great and captivating book, that I finished it later on my own, despite knowing the story by then... It was that good...

4. War and Peace, by Tolstoy
Just for the magnitude of it, a must for general culture

5. The Master and Margarita, by Bulgakov
This was my mother's GOAT book and we had the whole Bulgakov collection...
I'm not a huge fan of fantasy and christian philosophy, but it is also a must for the general culture and I respect the book...


Honorable mention: Anna Karenina by Tolstoy
Everyone should read it for the general culture, but I hated the privilege of elites to dwell on their broken hearts.
Poor women of their time (and often even today) could not separate from their husbands... One could probably not write two pages on their dresses, that's just a detail but it was really bothering me at the time...
This does not take anything from the feelings of the rich though. They are real, and the book is famous for a reason, although it screams rich privilege from almost every page...

I loved both of these a lot. The crazy family dynamics in Karamazov and the way gambling’s ills are like a silent character looming in the shadows ready to have its say. Once I finish War and Peace it’s gon be Crime and Punishment next

Notes of the Underground was also great to me. I’ve always wanted to be a writer so reading the level of detail and the layered nature of the different soliloquies by the characters. shyt is really a philosophical discussion through fiction…

@Godless Liberal CEO @Bobby Ashley @Reality wrong thread for this but if you’re not interested in my opinion or even me playing devils advocate, there’s no need to harass me from thread to thread calling me a Russian agent. That’s just ungentlemanly respectfully and as black brothers let’s treat different opinions and dissection with respect and maybe guidance. If I’m so misguided why not try and guide me? Maybe I do agree with your sentiments secretly; is it wrong to then espouse the opposite as an intellectual exercise?

Bruh who cares either way? I’ve been on this site a long time. I’ve always opposed censorship. This ukraine thing is full of it. I gravitate. It’s forum trolling but everyone is on red alert.
