the point is him getting a title shot in the 1st place

It adds more heft to the current title run. Defeating legends is a good way to make the title seems like something everybody wants no matter if they're in the company or not. Adds more history and a certain respect level to say the champion defeated a former AWA World Champion. It's a nice rub to give your current champion and makes the title run seem somewhat more special in the long run.

Then again, I like going back and looking at the history of title defenses and seeing who the champion defended the belt against. ROH is one of the only companies that keeps up with that stuff like MMA does. Ring Of Honor Championships | ROH Wrestling

Yup that is one of the few things that I give delerious credit for he is allowing Cody to make the title mean something. I think the ROH Champion should be used like the Old NWA champion and be a touring world champion anyways. It would be a dope way to get guys on extra shows and great way to scout talent.

That really ain't ROH's fault though. I don't know if your famililiar with NEW but they always book wacky matchups. They just had hacksaw and Robbie E face off in a random 6 man tag on their last show. ROH could of blocked the match but why potentially mess up a relationship between your world champion and one of the few promoters left who don't run ippv over a random title defence that probably below half of your audiance will see

Yup, No doubt it might have even been a favor to them since they signed so many people from there in the first place (The whole Kingdom, Hanson, and Dijak) but like I said ROH has little to gain from blocking the title match in the first place they get the world champion an extra date, free publicity, and they keep their feeder league happy.
