i just want great vocals and a fresh perspective in songwriting/content.. enough of the low-fi cursive singing/whispering these artists are doing.. this whole alt-rnb/atmosphric wave is soo stale now. I need more balance w/the subgnres.. not one particular rnb ‘sound’ oversaturating the market

sadly a lot of R&B singers think like rappers and eschew writers and/or actually penning lyrics.

a lot of their shyt is freestyling and it shows.

For instance, Chris Brown...for as catchy as some of his later hits are... needs better writers to truly transcend. Look at Miguel, dude is out there experimentally, but he's absolutely a lyrical monster when it comes to R&B records.

Chris Brown is out here kinda releasing the same song over and over.

And yes Trey does have the collection of stronger albums . Chris that nikka tho . I still prefer to listen to Chris if you just said grab 50 random songs .

CB issue is his albums have too many songs that sound similar & aren’t cohesive.

Yeah these Brent Faiyaz, Bryson Tiller and 6lack types gotta go. PND and The Weeknd were two of my favorite artists but in retrospect they completely b*stardized the genre.

I thought I was the only who hated Faiyaz and 6lack.

Faiyaz is just boring to me, and 6lack might be the biggest cornball in r&b.

I won’t hate on Bryson since he seems like a pioneer to the sound, but he def has fallen off.

Brent cool . He gets repetitive tho & I hate the short song format . When singers do that it lets me know they weren’t creative to extend it longer.

August 1st album is one of my favorite albums of all time.

the second is ok but you tell he don’t have much label support, all the music he’s dropped after that has been pretty unforgettable
