Might be the anime-style acting? It's based on a manga and the showrunner does have a habit of going over the top like that. What bothered me most was the CGI animals. I know they did a lot to put them in there but those scenes were ass.

I know folks hate remakes but I wouldn't mind a western take with the story.

I think that might play a part, the whole over-the-top, long ass pauses explaining what's going on, yelling and yelling some more, etc lol. Might be why I liked that laid-back condescending dude more lol. I liked the concept in itself tbh, which is why I watched until the end
