Ehh. But if u look at God’s Son and Lost Tapes vs BP2 it’s gonna be damn hear just as cringe. shyt just compare Black Album and BP2. Same thing. Nas didn’t drop an album the year Black Album dropped. SD is when Nas decided to go damn near completely anti industry. On top of that. The narrative started after God’s Stepson imo. Wasn’t shyt “slick” about IWW. But Nas never stayed stagnant. No one album sounds like the other. That’s what makes him so great imo.
That God's Stepson shyt was wack IDGAF what anyone says. Most of those beats didn't fit the songs. He made like 4 songs better if that nikkaz ran with a narrative. Spot on about BP2 vs Black album

And after that everytime Nas dropped he was like ''give me the accapellas'' implying the beats were shyt. I'm glad Nas never gave him the time of the day

Vlad shythead was responsable for that narrative too

Smh at the BS narrative of Nas picking bad beats, especially in 2025. Whole thing is odd and it's the epitome of lazy content. IDGAF how you slice it, objectively Nas is the GOAT and it hurts many of his haters, so they resort to this narrative. Dude's beats are dope and have aged better than those from other "Greats".

Some dudes can't seem to recognize greatness even if it smacked them in the face. Caz choosing Jadakiss' discography over Nas' tells me all I need to know.

Jay's 10 worst beats throughout his career are worst than Nas' 10 worst beats.

Zone Out beat is equally as obnoxious as a Backseat Freestyle or A Millie type of beat. Yet, no one says a word about those.

The problem with BP2 wasn't the beats though - that's an all star cast of producers and is full of dope beats (Heavy D, Just Blaze, Kanye, Timbo, Neptunes, Dre etc). It's like a summer blockbuster movie that costs a lot of money and isn't good. Looks expensive, sounds expensive, has some good moments but doesn't work as a cohesive body of work (and isn't good). Jay was way off sonically on that album, not balancing the street/rap shyt with the pop shyt.

I compare SD and Black Album because one came out in November and the other came out the following November. And I disagree about the anti-industry argument for SD because anti-industry doesn't mean bad or forgettable beats. Him and Salaam took Thief's Theme to radio...that's anti-industry and dope. There are multiple dope beats on that album with similar vibes. The problem is it's basically two album ideas mixed together: the street shyt and the married life stuff. So ironically like BP2, Nas veers off sonically due to the conflict and the balance hurts the album.

I didn’t like like half the beats on BP2. Other half was dope. SD suffers the same fate. Nas had clear singles he could’ve used on SD and decided on Bridging the Gap instead. This is DEFINITELY when he decided to go opposite of the industry. nikka even put c00n Picnic on the album dissing Kobe and Puff. And contrary to what u saying. SD was actually very well received in real time. I even read a review back then with someone saying Nasty Nas is back. SD suffered certain cuts from the album. Issues with sample clearances. All that. The song Disciple is a clear example of the sample clearance issue. Songs like Serious feat AZ, Foul Breeze, Good Morning, Where Yall At etc etc were all supposed to be on SD.

People forget that SD was originally supposed to be a Triple Album but Sony wouldn’t allow it which is why Talk of New York, Good Morning, and Serious didn’t make the final cut.

Where Ya’ll At wasn’t for SD, it was an early street single after Nas signed to Def Jam and got so popular it almost made Hip Hop Is Dead. It still got released as a download only bonus cut if you brought the album at Best Buy and The N was a download only bonus if you brought the album at Circuit City.

Yea I’m wildin I got Where Yall At confused. Regardless there’s mad bangers left off SD. Regardless nikkas talk about beats but some of the dopest beats out of NY that year was on SD. Thief’s Theme, Just A Moment, Nazareth Savage(I still feel like nikkas would appreciate this beat more if Kiss was on it). Speaking of Serious. Nas smoked that shyt. lol. Also. If Quan was more disciplined he could’ve been the next Nate Dogg.

No doubt. The sleepy ass beats he used for that, Get Down and Made You Look killed the energy of the tracks. Among others.
That nikka 9th was the type of nikka that thought a soul sample fixes everything. But didn’t understand the beauty of soulful DRUM BREAKS.
