nastradamus is not a bad nas album, let alone a bad album

yall repeating the media talkin points on msg boards for years helps the parroted media

in real time what was to hate on nastradamus?

cuz it wasnt i am double disc?

cuz nas was being too phrophetic?

cuz nggaz dissed the EPmD sample?

dame blessed him and the album is HARD

3 or 4 tracks dont justify the hate

Nastradamus has some of the worst Nas songs ever on it. There's a few 5/5 songs on it, but overall its all over the place and it still remains at or near the bottom of his discography.

Not to mention, Nastradamus dropped in a stacked 4th quarter 1999. Out of the albums that dropped that quarter, Nastradamus is one of the worst if not the worst.

"Nastradamus" was his worst single especially with L.E.S. producing considering they had classics together.

I feel like Nastradamus isn’t great but I also don’t think it’s as terrible as people make it as well. A young cat I know was getting into all of the old Nas albums and oddly enough he really likes Nastradamus. Including the single.

please elaborate

i would like to kno what nas worst songs are

and what are the 5/5

no pushback from me

i genuinely am interested as my stance has already been vocalized

"Big Girl" is the worst Nas song ever. Didn't really care for "Nastradamus". There's a few that I feel are ok like "Some of Us Have Angels" and "God Love Us". I didn't really feel "Family" like that either. Nas/Mobb had better songs.

"Project Window", "Last Words" and "Life We Chose" are 5/5. "You Owe Me", "Shoot Em Up", "Come Get Me" are dope. I feel the rest is filler.

EPMD did it better years prior

I mean yeah it goes without saying the EPMD version is better. But I don't think the song would be as hated on it if it just had a better hook. Because Nas verses on it are dope and the beat is obviously dope.

But it's a bad album lol. That's not a media narrative, Nas himself has acknowledged it and most Nas or "rap fans" will tell you it's bad. Multiple bad songs on there, ranging from trend chasing (New World) to arguably his worst song ever (Big Girl) to corny tracks like the title track or You Owe Me.

opinion

That's not a media narrative, Nas himself has acknowledged it

"they said nastradamus wasnt my hardest, still sold a million regardless"

nas addressed it because of the media narrative, he didnt just randomly bring that up

it no way is nas acknowledging the album being wack

I don't have it as the worst on my list. Judging it in real-time is a good way to look at it, but we never consider all of the mitigating factors. Personally, I was cool with it. Its highs are very good. What has to be considered, though, is that his best stuff was leaked and withheld, it was a concept album that had to have a darker tone, and it was a rush job.

Nas has actually said in an interview with Marc Lamont Hill that he likes Nastradamus so no he’s never admitted its a bad album.

It IS however his weakest album all things considered. Its his worst sequenced album, some of the songs sound rushed, and Big Girl IS indeed the worst Nas song in his discography and Nastradamus is his worst single.

Still, the worst Nas album is still at the very least a 3/5. GOAT talent just has GOAT expectations. But Nas will always be able to hang his hat on being only the 2nd rapper in history to have two platinum albums in one year.

Nothing corny about You Owe Me.

I'm glad Nas embraces that song more in recent years than he did in the past. Song is a banger and it is still Nas being Nas. Even when Jay called him out over the song, I never saw hypocrisy in Nas making that song and everything else he made. The only thing off putting about "You Owe Me" is it being the closing song on Nastradamus not counting "The Outcome". "You Owe Me" sounds like a song that should be earlier in the album where "Last Words" sounds more like a closer. Perfect bookend to "Life We Chose".
