This is what I was thinking when people were hyping him up based on what he did in Europe. He won't be able to do most of that shyt because he won't be able to penetrate. His first step is below average for a perimeter player in the NBA.

To be fair to Doncic, there aren't too many players with the same physical attributes as Simmons, so it's not like he's going to be matched up with that type of player every game. He'll adjust - he's got the BBIQ, playmaking, shooting, and versatility to find a niche in the league.

Yeah true. You can tell he's got skill and sees the game well. But he's just gonna have problems getting by people and making plays in the paint for his teammates. He's gonna have to get stronger and develop a low post game to back smaller guards down if he consistently wants to get into the paint.

Reminds me of what Kukoc had to adjust to. He was penetrating and driving in the paint making plays in Europe. But when he came to the NBA, he couldn't do any of that. He still had a lot of skill but just couldn't do most of the stuff he was doing there because the caliber of athletes in the NBA is just on a different level.

He's a 6'7" PG though so he can get stronger and bully smaller PGs. But he's gotta adjust his game.

I think he can still be a productive player

This is my whole argument. Folks were hyping him cause he won MVP in Europe, but that don’t mean shyt when you haven’t been going against the best black players since middle school like the kids over here.

If he can't get by someone, he'll call for a pick from Deandre or Dirk. The lob threat from DJ or the pop threat from Dirk will open things up for him. His decision making, understanding of how and what to do in the pick n roll, and his passing is why the Mavs selected him. Carlisle runs a lot of pick n rolls (shoot that's what most of the league does) so I really don't see him getting too many isos and being asked to take his man 1 on 1 too often.

He didn't have Dirk or DJ in China and it's possible Dirk will miss the season opener so it'll be a while before we see him with everyone.

DSJ will be the one breaking his defender done and taking it to the rim anyway
