Your name and avi kills me:skip::dead:

Well back to the topic, I made a popular thread in another sub-forum that may be of interest to you ladies.

It's not necessarily about budgeting but more so different ways to increase your earnings potential via passive income with as little effort as possible:

https://www.thecoli.com/threads/pos...sistently-every-day-as-passive-income.660312/

I haven't tried any of them myself but it is an interesting read regardless.:wow:

cool thread.
i didn't get ultra serious about my financials until 2018. my bills were always paid on time and i was putting money in my retirement but my savings was kinda light and i was wasting money on impulse buying. so far 2019 is starting out nicely because i made a point to stick to my plan.

i really like the acorns app. i have a .edu address so i don't have to pay a fee per month.

ETA : I also found selling stuff i dont use or need on eBay and poshmark was a nice way to make some change and declutter my closet

I agree, I have that problem too lol. I also want us to talk about building credit and investing in stocks cuz I read somewhere that like 40% of women retire like 6 years after men do because they make bad investments and don’t save enough in their youth :snoop:
And women usually leave the work force for periods of time or reduce their hours because of family obligations, which also negatively affects their retirement.

So the bankruptcy is filed, just waiting on the creditors to put in their claims. They have until the 20th, I believe and I may or may not be asked to attend court. I hope not, it sucked having to drive downtown during rush hour. Once that gets on the ball, I'm on the hook for $1200/month for 3 years. This includes my mortgage arrears and all other debt aside from my student loans. It's a lot, but if I had to pay those bill individually, it would have been way more.

My second focus is saving. I opened a couple new savings accounts and I have goals for each one. For one account I save a steady 10% of my net and the other I'm doing a savings challenge where you dedicate a certain amount every week and I think the end result is about $5500 at the end of the year. It's lofty, but I set a goal to save $15k by the end of the year...I don't think I'm going to make it, but it's still early in the year and I could hit a lick lol.

In May, when I'm eligible, I'm going to contribute 3% into my company's 401k and they match up 6%

All this shyt cant change in a drop of a hat because I'm low key looking for a new position. I hate my commute and I think I could get more money.

I'm also doing a savings challenge. I'm trying to save up 30k to buy a fixer upper in cash and the renovate it and live in it. I'm going to be saving 15k each year for two years. I'm already on course to save 10k this year and I'm hoping to get more hours at work soon so I can meet the 15k and if possible save majority of the money this year so I can spend next year saving for the renovations.

That sounds like a plan!!Not sure what area you're in, but if you can, find something with a basement, renovate that first because it's a smaller space, live in that and then you can do the upstairs at your leisure.

I'm saving to pay off these student loans. Trying to be done this Masters by Mar 2020 and have enough saved off to pay my students loans off in full. Shortly after, I'd be debt free of everything but the house.

That's a really good idea! That's what I was struggling with because most of the properties I've been looking at need new windows or roofs so I was trying to figure out how I could live in the house while renovating it. I'll definitely do that, thanks!

I need to pay off my student loans as well, I've deferred them for a year so that I can focus on saving for a house and then I'm going to really pay my loans down after I get the house.

How are finances handled in the home? Does your wife work? Do you have joint accounts, individual, or both? If you do have a joint account, is it an account designated explicitly for bills/expenses, or is it an 'anything goes' account? Is there a set % that you both contribute?

Those questions will help with getting an understanding of where you are and how you could possibly proceed.

For those of you with money market savings accounts, which bank do you use? I'm looking to switch.

Paid off my bills through March/April, got hit with a tax bill from 2016 that I just paid but it feels good. I was in the process of applying for a mortgage for a fixer upper but it needs too much work and I’m not trying to drain all my money. Current goals are to stack and raise my credit score.
