2nd trailer

Update:

June 12 comes back

Intergalactic bounty hero and antihero Lobo is coming to Syfy's Krypton as the "big bad" of season 2. Lobo is the latest in a long list of established DC characters to appear in the Superman prequel series.

Krypton takes viewers back to the Man of Steel's home planet, two generations before its destruction. The show focuses on Superman's grandfather, Seg-El (Cameron Cuffe), who learns of a plot to prevent the birth of his future grandson. The plot was supposedly perpetuated by one of Superman's greatest enemies, Brainiac, but Seg discovers at the end of the season that the real threat to his grandson's legacy is actually a time-travelling General Zod (Colin Salmon).

It was announced during the Krypton panel at San Diego Comic-Con 2018 (via THR) that season 2 will feature Lobo as the main villain. As of yet, no actor has been officially cast for the role. The alien bounty hunter hails from the planet Czarnia. It's unclear what will bring him to Krypton, but it was made clear in the season finale that Krypton's military will begin to seek out other civilizations.

Lobo, who started as a villain in the 1980s and evolved into an antihero by the 1990s, has a reputation as a relentless bounty hunter. His only rule is that once he takes a contract, he follows it through no matter what gets in his way. His methods have often put him at odds with Superman. Though Lobo isn't as strong as Superman, the character is powerful enough to fight the Man of Steel one-on-one. The bounty hunter has also battled Superman in an episode of Superman: The Animated Series. Season 2 of Krypton will mark Lobo's first live-action appearance. A Lobo movie has been in the works for years, but has never moved forward. Additionally, the character was teased in an episode of Supergirl, leading fans to wonder if Lobo has a future in the Arrowverse.

It remains to be seen how Lobo will factor into the overarching plot of Krypton's second season. The news that Lobo will be the big bad is surprising, considering that Zod was clearly set up to be the main antagonist of the season. In taking control of Krypton and defeating Braniac, Zod has changed the planet's destiny and erased Superman from existence. Fans will have to wait and see how Lobo will react to Zod's plans to explore and conquer. It's also possible that the antihero will end up joining forces with Zod to help him with his schemes - for the right price, of course

Season 2 of Syfy's Superman prequel series Krypton will explore the origin stories of two DC characters: Nightwing and Flamebird. However, this version of Nightwing is a Kryptonian god, and isn't connected to the former sidekick of Batman.

The first season of Krypton saw Superman's grandfather, Seg-El (Cameron Cuffe) fight to stop Brainiac, "the collector of worlds", from destroying the city of Kandor. To defeat Brainiac, Seg had to team up with a time-travelling General Zod (Colin Salmon), who was revealed to be Seg's son. In the end, Brainiac's plans were thwarted, allowing Zod to assume control of Krypton. Brainiac's defeat and Zod's rule resulted in Superman's legacy being completely erased from history.

At San Diego Comic-Con 2018, it was announced that intergalactic bounty hunter and anti-hero Lobo will be joining the series as the big bad of season 2. It was also revealed by Cameron Cuffe that the second season will dive into the origin stories for both Nightwing and Flamebird, a pair of Kryptonian gods.

In Kryptonian mythology, Nightwing and Flamebird are powerful dragon-like gods. Much like Hawkman and Hawkgirl, Nightwing and Flamebird are eternally bound together. The two are always drawn to seek each other's companionship, though their stories generally end in tragedy. Following their deaths, the two are reincarnated. They spend every life cycle in search of each other. The pair have served as the inspiration for numerous superhero duos, beginning with Superman and Jimmy Olsen, who took on the identities of Nightwing and Flamebird respectively.

Season 1 showed fans how important the gods are in Kryptonian culture. The Voice, who was the figurehead of Kryptonian society, was a prophet of the sun god Rao. The Voice was treated like a god by his people, which is an indication of how much the Kryptonians revere their gods. Season 1 helped to establish Kryptionian lore, and it appears that season 2 will continue to expand on that.

It's unclear how Nightwing and Flamebird will factor into the story for season 2, or how they'll be reimagined for the series. As Krypton has remained faithful in its depictions of comic book characters like Brainiac and Doomsday, there's a possibility that Krypton won't deviate too much from Nightwing and Flamebird's comic book history. It will certainly be interesting to see how Kryptonadapts the two gods for the series, and if they will be presented in dragon or human form. Adding dragons to Krypton may also cause fans to draw even stronger comparisons to Game of Thrones.
