Did it randomly kick in when he got his powers? They didn't really flesh that out.
Nolan Grayson said that the older they get the more their age slows down. That kid started growing fast due his own genetics and then when his Viltrimite powers kicked it, it's believed to slow down drastically otherwise stated.
Yeah they said as his viltrumite abilities become stronger his aging will slow. He'll still age faster than a normal human but it's not going to be every other week he ages 3/4 years type shyt
