Critics wrong again as usual. I thought it cool. It was beautifully shot and the effects for "Junior' were dope as I had to keep doing a double take since I grew up on "Young" Will. Ang Lee's films have always been very visually stunning. I guess it had the typical "Government doing shady sh!t" plot. Honestly, I'm happy this film was made and this is exactly what separates Will from the current crop of so called "Movie Stars". He can still open an original Sci-Fi film not tied to a franchise. The Budget was obviously big mainly because of the technology being used. It feels like it could of dropped in the 90's for sure (Remember Double Impact, lol) I liked the pacing because they got right to it and it felt like a "Chase" type film since they were on the run for all of it. The action was dope too.
My only real beef was the climax felt kinda of rushed but Clive did decent as the Bad Guy, you can tell he had a warped view but I understood his motives overall as far as trying to make the perfect solider. Benedict and Mary were good co-stars too. As for the Box Office, blame the release date. This should of dropped Late Summer like August. Or before Summer like early April. "Joker" is just doing too good and "Addams Family" it tapping in the Halloween Market for kids. I think Overseas will end up saving it though. Will is coming off a Billi with "Aladdin", it's already in the green for this year. Also though they were different in tone, "Us" did deal wit the whole "A Copy of Myself is coming to kill me" so audiences did just see that earlier in the year. I remember in the 90's Just like "Volcano/Dante's Peek" or "Armageddon/Deep Impact" Sometimes when you drop a movie similar to something that already drop, somebody will get the short end of the stick at the box office. I give it a B -. I will always enjoy Will in Sci-Fi, it just works for him. Lastly the title kept making think of "Mega Man" from back in the day, lol.
