They are the same level as AAA games a lot of the time. You'd have to be closed minded to not agree, I feel.

A random AAA game is likely better than the MAJORITY of indie games, sure, but you're not (not saying you specifically) gonna sit there and tell me AC Valhalla is better than games like 12 Minutes, Hades, Cuphead by default because it's cinematic and has a big budget. fukk no.

I agree with you. I think it depends on the indie though (those you named are considered some of the best). A lot of AAA games imo are more of the same every release (AC, BF, COD, Far Cry, NBA 2K etc). So, I`d rather play some indie titles of quality such as the one`s you named rather than these AAA`s i just named. But still i crave new AAA releases, that has a new experience (new ip`s maybe). Maybe it`s more on AAA disappointing (me), than Indie being pushed as a replacement. (idk what i want exactly lol but sometimes i feel like the industry is headed in a direction i`ll lose interest in)

Halo Infinite is a AAA 500 million dollar budget game for example. I haven`t played the game yet, and i`ve heard great things about it. I may even consider it my GOTY when i do play it. But when i see that gameplay. Absolutely nothing about that game screams 500 million dollar AAA to me. Not when they first revealed gameplay, or even now as a released game (no console war fanboy shyt)

back in the ps2 days , RPG of the year would have been the 2nd most important category behind game of the year.
