That's the point. Despite his massive intelligence and him outplotting every killer and cop on his show since day one, he's sick and fukking insane out of his mind. He's a VILLAIN. He talks to his dead father to rationalize his motives and next moves. If you didn't cringe at that during Season 1, why try to act different now?

Doakes died, essentially, just because he caught him red handed and Miguel Prada's brother died without cause too.

The dexter is the books is ruthless like coupe but he comes with more features. They use dark passenger for tv purposes. That's why last season with mos def was so profound because mos def was trying to introduce Jesus into his life. And that's the closest ever dex has been to peace with himself during this whole show.
