He actually said that while owning slaves? That's actually a Thomas Jefferson quote (a man who was also a slave owner)
This is actually one of many reasons why I hate how this country romanticizes about the "forefathers"
He actually said that while owning slaves?
Jefferson inherited 52 enslaved Black men and women from his father in 1767. In 1773 he inherited another 135 enslaved Black persons from his father-in-law. He died with 130 enslaved black persons in 1826. During the sixty years he had those slaves, only two were freed openly and a couple others (Sally Hemmings's children) were "allowed to escape". About 5 more were freed in his will, but 130 were sold off to other slaveowners after his death to pay off his debts. He said that in 1787 in a letter to Madison. I'm not sure if he had any slaves at that point.

I appreciate Thomas Jefferson's hypocrisy on slavery because it helped set the stage for the end of slavery. But he definitely was a fukking hypocrite and pulling that shyt is inhuman.
“We hold these truths to be self evident that all men are created equal...”All the American forefathers were fukking fekkets
