The competition and dedication to waving in the mid/late 00s was :wow: status ... niccas had the brush on them like it was a vital organ

You ain't NEVER lie. Real talk I kind of miss it. Dudes would be on DBZ levels of training their hair. I remember we used to do all that damn brushing and then rock Du-Rags RELIGIOUSLY. We had different colored du-rags for different outfits, we go to the mall, get a FRESH cut and then put the du-rag RIGHT back on like it was a Muslim turban. School days when the du-rag came off was like taking off Piccollo's weighted clothing, the waves were looking RIGHT:russ:

I'm about to embark on my wave journey. I've only had really good waves one time in my life.... about 17 years old. I've been trying to duplicate those deep, wet waves ever since, to no avail. I kind of gave up because I have trouble with the entire left side of my head.... shyt looks matted and unconnected compared to the deep waves of the right side.

Right now, I have a hard and soft brush, stocking caps (I need a du-rag), some Murray's wave pomade and some Motions Pink hair lotion. I guess I need to be walked through the actual steps.

Also, how do you guys feel about shea butter, carrot and olive oil in your hair? Should I change for better results?

Back when I first started, mad people said that pomade would make you start balding once you get older so I never used it like that. I just put some water on my hair at night, brush until my hair is slightly damp, then apply the moisturizer and du-rag it up. I have trouble too on my right side, but if I brush consistently then I can see some progress. Wolfing (growing your hair out for weeks then getting a cut) might help your situation out. I don't think the type of moisturizer really matters as long as it keeps your hair healthy.

I just looked again and I don't have anymore pomade (must have given it away), so all I have is that Motions moisturizer. I'll use that until I get a clear difference on the oils and butters.

I may post my journey in here since this thread is dead.... and I can get help too.

Throw those brushes and doo rags out.
get a comb, stocking cap and a master barber who knows patterns of growth and masterfully how to cut.

I gotta get my hair cut first tho how low do I get it to start out from scratch?

probably start with a low cut with the grain, and then "wolf" your hair out for 2-3 months, with no cuts just line ups. IMO Winter is the best time to wolf since you dont have to deal with sweating like that.
