Hurricane Dorian destroyed about 30% of the coral reefs around the Bahamas, according to a new report. In some instances, reef structures the size of small cars were dislodged or buried in debris, mud and sediment several feet deep, a lead researcher said.

The storm’s effects were uneven: About 30 percent of the country’s coral was destroyed, but some reefs appeared to be undamaged.
