I'm starting to see lots of hate on twitter towards this film. I'm trying not to succumb to the hate, but brehs we didn't overrate this movie did we :lupe::mjcry:

Somebody tell me its just haters gonna hate :damn::mjpls::sadcam:

I love the film, but, it's overrated. Good movie, not flawless.

I'm not calling for it to win Best Picture.

Michael B. Jordan's performance was uneven. Great writing, but, he needed a stronger performance to overcome being adorable Wallace.

The CGI was decent to down right bad in spots (the final fight was the worst. I love the stuff that I didn't even think was CGI (that whole Wakanda v Wakanda fight had maaaddd CGI and I didn't know).

The Casino scene and the ensuing car chase could've been cut. It could've been a better scene--to unoriginal---or that time could've been used to build up the secondary characters.

I wish Coog was able to shoot more his style instead of the Avengers/Disney style.

Dope film. Pretty edgy writing.

My only issue was the CGI at the end :yeshrug:

The casino and car chase were dope. Also the car chase/casino being removed is only thought of in retrospect. It was a clever way leading you to believe Klaue was the main villain (well those who didn't watch the trailers I guess)

The big battle did seem more Disney. However, I had no issues with MBJ. Was he perfect? No. But still great for that role.

I haven't seen many films better this year :yeshrug:

First two acts are pretty much perfect imo. 3rd act could have been stronger, but still a great movie imo. :manny:

There was a good argument that was based around how much bad movies use the casino fight trope.

It's a nitpick because the actual casino fight was DOOPPPEE

The car chase was standard fare and not the makings of a GOAT level film

The big battle did seem more Disney.

I was referring more to the tone

It felt too much like Civil War tone-wise. And I get that's just the MCU way.

Go back to the intense dialogue scenes. He tried to "bad guy" it up too much, when the writing was so good he didn't need that.

He should've been more subtle. He became too cartoonish at times. So much it felt like they were making fun of the "millitant" trope.

Everything else was great. His presence was incredible. Just he needed to level his tone of.

First two acts are pretty much perfect imo. 3rd act could have been stronger, but still a great movie imo. :manny:

Yep, the "let's group together" thing, the "I'm not leaving you here alone"

Like, the movie could've taken less predictable beats in the story--we needed more time with other Wakandans

Again, I've seen the movie like 7 times, now

I love it, but, it's not perfect

I think the car chase was limited....because of Kendrick. That song playing it over took away some tension. Also it appeared that Marvel wanted to have fun with the chase instead of making it look like some daring escape......it still worked. Its just not GOAT because usually GOAT car chase there's intensity throughout.

I just think its how you interpret his character. I saw MBJ's Killmonger as a try hard, fronting, man child. He had good ideas, but he's been building to this moment his entire life that his anger teetered on cartoony. His subtle moments in the film made it clear he was just trying way too hard.

I think the 3rd act was rushed. I do hope we see that extended version of the movie. I have a feeling that version of the film lets everything breathe,

I like that explanation :ohhh:

I still would've liked a more "surgical" approach this his character and then him going off the deep end after "beating" T'Challa

I just felt it was there

Killmonger at his best was when he first got to Wakanda until he threw T'Challa in the river

He was legit scary in that throne room

I wouldn't have been surprised if he tried to kill someone in there

Sidebar: A good example of my problem with the delivery is; listen to the way he says Iraq in his monologue
:mjlol:

I actually liked that part :pachaha:

As I stated in the Mediocre MBJ thread....in a way his performance/character allowed for Boseman to :gucci: at just what Wakanda created.

Once he caught that stab to the gut....he dropped the persona and during that time realize how he blew his chance to take in the beauty of Wakanda. He started talking to him normal and being real.

Also yea Marvel needs to release that longer cut.

All that good character development and probably longer fight scenes on the cutting room floor. :mjcry:

Yall making me want to watch this again.

Of course its not perfect. But its got some of the best writing in the entire MCU and nearly all comic books. Very culturally significant with some great scenes. The cgi is mostly average and bad in some spots but not enough to diminish my enjoyment of the film. It also has some of the best scores in the mcu. I take something new pretty much everytime I watch it so i think it'll age well. I might watch it again this weekend.:yeshrug:

I think the score, acting (at least in a solo), story are the best in the MCU. Cinematography top 2 or 3. Would be 1 if the CGI was on point. :manny:

'Black Panther' Nominated for Best Drama at the Golden Globes

It’s finally happening… a Marvel movie is on track to have a real presence this Awards Season!

An array of celebrities woke up incredibly early this morning to reveal the Golden Globe nominations, and we’re thrilled to announce that Black Panther has not only been nominated, but nominated for the coveted Best Drama award.

While the superhero film, which stars Chadwick Boseman in the titular role, isn’t exactly a drama, it’s also not quite a comedy or musical, either. Since there’s no action/adventure category or superhero category, campaigning for Best Drama was a smart call by the Marvel producers. First and foremost, it could lead to potential Oscar voters taking the film more seriously. And what is the Golden Globes if not the big stop before the Academy Awards?

Black Panther has some stiff competition, but there’s nothing that stands out as the clear winner, so it could be anyone's game. The MCU film is going up against BlacKkKlansman, Bohemian Rhapsody, If Beale Street Could Talk, and A Star Is Born.

While Rotten Tomatoes certianly isn’t the end all, be all of film rating or criticism (and not to be weighed too heavily when predicting the outcome of award shows like the Globes), it is worth noting that Black Panther does have the highest rating of all five films, coming out at 97%. BlacKkKlansman (directed by Spike Lee) has a 95%, If Beale Street Could Talk (directed by Barry Jenkins) currently has a 91%, A Star is Born (directed by Bradley Cooper) is standing firm at 90%, and Bohemian Rhapsody (directed by Bryan Singer) currently has a 62% (the Golden Globes love musicals).

While the Ryan Coolger-directed film has the first real shot of any Marvel Cinematic Universe film to take home a prize, it will ultimately be up to the Hollywood Foreign Press. Either way, it’s nice to see some recognition for Black Pantherand the MCU.

Best Drama wasn’t the film’s only nomination. It also reviewed a nod for Best Original Score, going up against A Quiet Place, Isle of Dogs, First Man, and Mary Poppins Returns. Black Panther’s score was composed by Ludwig Göransson, who is a Childish Gambino collaborator and is credited for scoring multiple films, including Creed and Venom.
