if the economy is struggling in 2022 like it still was in 2010 it will probably be a red wave. but if its recovering and COVID is under control i dont think republicans have a big inherent advantage. if biden pushes student debt relief like schumer said that would help a lot too. and if SCOTUS overturns roe or finds the ACA unconstitutional that could actually cause another blue wave.
2014 was just bizarre but the most important part was the senate map was horrible for the dems and they were exposed everywhere. then they ended up losing like every possible seat except virginia
but dems couldn't ask for a better senate map than 2022. if they nominate great candidates in wisconsin and pennsylvania democrats should be favorites. another thing to note - in 94, 06, 10 and 18 the opposing parties got waves after the other party had a troika. with mitch in control of the senate its a lot easier to place blame on the opposition for government failures. in 2010 everything was on pelosi, reid and obama. there aren't a lot of precedents for that i can think of but it could work out well for us if democrats play it right
people assume midterm waves are inevitable but they usually happen for pretty specific reasons. for now we just have to see how shyt plays out, by 2022 we'll have a much better idea.
